But what does it all mean?

For first time visitors to the Etsy site, take it from me, not all that you read is instantaneously recognizable. But, with this list you should be able to hit the ground running and find all kinds of handmade goodies you love and cherish:

Colors - Kind of obvious, but this allows you to find items that have that particular color in the photograph. It can be addicting.

Treasury - Every Etsy member, whether buyer or seller, can put a treasury together. A treasury is a collection of items that you particularly like and want to share with the world. There are 333 running all the time and last for seven days. It gives the Etsy community a place to support one another and recognize all types of artists for their hard work. Etsy Admin takes the best of the treasuries and rotates them on the home page for maximum impact and exposure. You can always tell who put the treasury together because the shop's name or buyer's id is at the top of every "hand-picked item" grouping. It is always so interesting to see what other Etsians have found on this amazing site and how they have grouped them together into a theme.

Showcase - Etsy showcases give owners of shops a place to promote themselves. It is the on-site advertising program that allows Etsians to proudly show off their very best. The Main Showcase is always featured on the front page and from time to time seasonal showcases are placed there as well. Showcases exist elsewhere including the top of category listings and in the Storque, Etsy's blog/newspaper.

Gift Guides - These guides are put together by Etsy staff members to help buyers find different items to purchase based on the person's interests, time of year or the occasion.

Shop Local - If you want to find crafters and artists in your area, this is a great tool. Try typing in abbreviations as well as complete spellings to get the broadest listing.

Pounce - Pounce has two distinct features. It displays newly opened shops who haven't made their first sale and it also shows shops who just made a sale. Keep hitting the "Pounce Again" button at the bottom of the page and new shops that fit these criteria will appear for you to investigate.

Geolocator - When you type in a location, the globe will quickly pinpoint the number of sellers in a particular area and a strip showing their shop icons will appear above it. You will quickly realize that Etsy shops are located all over the world.

Timemachine - This is a way to see all the items that have just been posted for sale. Truthfully, it is weird and really not worth even bothering with. However, Timemachine 2 is a completely different story.

Timemachine2 - This feature is quite useful compared to its predecessor. It shows in a clear and linear format all the items that have just been listed, are about to expire, and have just been sold. You can scroll back in time to see what is new and what categories are popular. It is a very useful feature.
